Complete TRT: 40 minutes

NEW VISION is an interview-based project with blind massage therapists of the same name in Manila, Philippines. Founded in the late 1990’s New Vision is run by blind massage therapists and seeing guides, most of whom live on the 4th floor of 1224 Don Pedro Street, above the cooperative. New Vision addresses perception and identity through the real, through physical accounts of blindness. Filmed in July of 2011, questions and conversations range from experiences of labor, how one navigates and identifies, to more phenomenological questions of perception and sensory experience. The voice and testimony of the blind massage therapists serve as the underlying structure of the film.
New Vision was founded by Rudy Sarmiento, in Singalong (barangay/neighborhood) Manila, in 1993. Massage therapy is one of the only professional careers for the blind in the Philippines. In New Vision, two of the massage therapists, Mang Rudy (Rudy Sarmiento) and Carmen Marvid share their personal stories of becoming blind, remembering vision, dreams, and how they navigate today.
